The people of Aue-Bad Schlema are once again being called upon to elect a mayor on Sunday. The second round of voting is necessary because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round. Now a simple majority is enough. The candidates are Stefan Hartung from the far-right "Free Saxons" and Marcus Hoffmann from the CDU.
In the first round of voting on May 10, there were still five candidates on the ballot paper. According to the city council, Hartung came out on top with 29.0 percent, while Hoffmann received 23.6 percent.
In total, more than 15,000 citizens are eligible to vote. Aue-Bad Schlema is located in the Ore Mountains. The previous mayor Heinrich Kohl (CDU) is not running again due to his age.
