Members of the right-wing scene in Saxony had more than 400 firearms. This is according to an answer from the Ministry of the Interior to a minor question from Left Party politician Juliane Nagel in the state parliament. The statistics also include members and supporters of the AfD. The Saxon AfD state association has been classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the Free State of Saxony since the end of 2023. The party denies this and has so far unsuccessfully taken legal action against the classification.
"There is no question of disarmament."
Nagel also asked about the withdrawal of permits and gun bans and came to the conclusion: "There is no question of disarmament." In the previous year, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution had repeatedly provided information on 158 people from the right-wing scene to the local weapons authorities for the purpose of targeted checks. However, only 16 people had their firearms licenses revoked and 13 others voluntarily relinquished them. In addition, 21 people were banned from owning weapons.
"Obviously, these measures are not enough to force the extreme right to disarm," emphasized Nagel. The CDU-SPD minority government has "obviously abandoned its focus in the fight against the extreme right" and is not continuing the proven overall concept against right-wing extremism, the MP suspected. Her parliamentary group is therefore calling for a swift relaunch of the concept with a focus on the issue of weaponry.
