From DJ music to light art: The “Purple Path” region celebrates

Through contemporary art, the “Purple Path” 2025 has forged a close bond between Chemnitz, as the European Capital of Culture, and the surrounding region. Through Sunday, the region is celebrating with a wide variety of events along this art and sculpture trail. As part of the festivities, artists are opening their studios; there will be theater performances, talks, music, hands-on activities, and tours of individual artworks along the “Purple Path.”

According to reports, the highlight will be an immersive installation by light artist Philipp Frank in Geyer. Titled “Tiefenzeit,” the installation will transform a rock formation into a walk-through world of light and sound at dusk, organizers say. In this way, the interior of the mountain is meant to come to life, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a resonant space of geological time that can be experienced through the senses. 

Old Swimming Pool Becomes a Dance Floor

Meanwhile, under the title “Schnick Schnack Schnuck. Scissors, Wood, Paper,” local artists are presenting a group exhibition at the Kunstbahnhof Flöha. And in Gersdorf, artist Jan Kummer invites visitors to make crafts out of bottle caps under the title “Playing Like in the GDR.” Meanwhile, the former water park in Thalheim is turning into a dance floor: DJs will be spinning electronic music there at the “Thermal Rave.”
