Chemnitz is set to elect a new mayor on September 5, 2027. The city council has approved this date, according to a statement from the city administration. A potential second round of voting would take place three weeks later, on September 26. A mayor typically serves a seven-year term. The term of the current mayor, Sven Schulze (SPD), will therefore end on November 25, 2027. The Saxon Municipal Code specifies the timeframe within which an election must take place.
