What We Know About the Incident at Leipzig Airport

A drone at Leipzig Airport has prompted a police response. The unmanned aerial vehicle was found near a Ukrainian aircraft. 

What We Know

• According to consistent reports from security sources, a drone was seized near a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig Airport. A NATO spokesperson also confirmed this.
• According to reports, the drone was located near a Ukrainian Antonov AN-124 Condor transport aircraft
• The drone was seized shortly before midnight and examined with an X-ray machine
• According to the reports, an explosive device with a detonator was attached to the drone. 
• Leipzig/Halle Airport temporarily suspended flight operations overnight after an unidentified flying object was spotted near the airport and a suspicious object was found in the vicinity of the south runway. According to the Leipzig Police Department, several flights were diverted.

What we don’t know

• It is unclear whether the unidentified flying object or the suspicious item was the drone.
