According to a recent inquiry, Saxony's right-wing scene owns more than 400 firearms. The left are concerned and are calling for right-wing extremists to be disarmed.

Members of the right-wing scene in Saxony had more than 400 firearms. This is according to an answer from the Ministry of the Interior to a minor question from Left Party politician Juliane Nagel in the state parliament. The statistics also include members and supporters of the AfD. The Saxon AfD state association has been classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the Free State of Saxony since the end of 2023. The party denies this and has so far unsuccessfully taken legal action against the classification.

Left: Right-wing scene in Saxony is heavily armed

"The right-wing scene in Saxony remains heavily armed," said the left-wing parliamentary group, summarizing the ministry's data. 415 weapons are in the hands of right-wing extremists, 34 belong to so-called Reich citizens and self-administrators. According to the ministry, only the total number of weapons requiring a license has been recorded since 2025. There is no further differentiation by type of weapon.

147 right-wingers have a weapons permit

According to this, a total of 147 people from the right-wing scene had a weapons permit at the end of 2025. Most of them live in Dresden (21 people), followed by the districts of Görlitz (17) and Meißen (15). In an earlier response to a minor question from Nagel, the Ministry of the Interior had put the number of AfD members with a weapons permit at 95. A person can be in possession of several firearms permits.

"Some of the cases involve a small firearms license, which entitles the holder to carry alarm weapons in public," explained Nagel. 79 right-wing extremists and six Reich citizens have a gun ownership card and can therefore possess and purchase firearms.

"There is no question of disarmament."

Nagel also asked about the withdrawal of permits and gun bans and came to the conclusion: "There is no question of disarmament." In the previous year, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution had repeatedly provided information on 158 people from the right-wing scene to the local weapons authorities for the purpose of targeted checks. However, only 16 people had their firearms licenses revoked and 13 others voluntarily relinquished them. In addition, 21 people were banned from owning weapons.

"Obviously, these measures are not enough to force the extreme right to disarm," emphasized Nagel. The CDU-SPD minority government has "obviously abandoned its focus in the fight against the extreme right" and is not continuing the proven overall concept against right-wing extremism, the MP suspected. Her parliamentary group is therefore calling for a swift relaunch of the concept with a focus on the issue of weaponry.
