Former Chairwoman Zimmermann: “BSW Needs to Be More Vocal”

Sabine Zimmermann, the former state chair of the BSW in Saxony, is calling for the party to take a more active role in political issues and to be less reserved in the Dresden state parliament. “Where is our resolve? Where is our political bite?” Zimmermann asked the delegates at the BSW state party convention in Leipzig. “We’re too quiet. That worries me when I look at the situation in Saxony.”

The party wasn’t founded to go along quietly in parliament and settle into a comfortable routine, criticized the founding chairwoman of the state association. We need less restraint and to work on establishing a profile, Zimmermann said. After entering the state parliament, the party also has the opportunity to participate in politics in Saxony-Anhalt. “We must not squander this chance.”

BSW Should Present Demands in Budget Negotiations

With regard to the CDU/SPD-led minority government in Saxony’s search for support for its current budget proposal, Zimmermann said the BSW should not approve it without presenting its own substantive demands. “I want a political force. That’s why we built up the BSW in Saxony.”

In the 2024 state election in Saxony, the BSW—with Sabine Zimmermann as its lead candidate—won 11.8 percent of the vote and entered the state parliament as the third-strongest party with 15 representatives. About a year ago, Zimmermann announced that she would not run for state chair again for health reasons. In January, she also resigned her seat in the state parliament.
