The communication scientist Stefan Weber, known as a plagiarism hunter, has made serious accusations against Thuringia's Minister President Mario Voigt: he speaks of a "case of fraud", a "serious case of plagiarism" and "intent".
Weber presented his new expert opinion on Voigt's doctoral thesis in Erfurt alongside the Thuringian AfD parliamentary group leader Björn Höcke. Voigt and his lawyer did not initially respond to an inquiry about the new allegations.
The report was commissioned and paid for by Höcke's AfD parliamentary group. Thuringia's CDU parliamentary group leader Andreas Bühl sees "a smear campaign financed with taxpayers' money". The opposition Left Party faction called the press conference "a ridiculous and transparent PR campaign".
