They are adversaries in parliament, but demonstrate unity on the soccer pitch. The FC Landtag Sachsen is getting down to business. Soccer fever is on the rise just before the World Cup.

A few days before the start of the World Cup, the FC Landtag wants to show off its skills. Eleven teams have registered for the "Parliamentary Football Tournament" next Friday in Dresden's Heinz Steyer Stadium, including teams from the city councils of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig as well as the traditional team "Atze & Friends" of former GDR national player Matthias Döschner, announced FC Landtag. It is still unclear whether FC Bundestag will also be making the trip.

President of the Landtag Dierks will be on the offensive

The FC Landtag Sachsen team is looking to be at its best, and the President of Parliament will also be on the offensive: "In parliament, I'm usually asked to referee, but on the pitch I'm looking forward to being on the offensive," said Alexander Dierks. Members of parliament and employees from parliament and the state government play in the FC Landtag team. The club president is CDU politician Marko Schiemann.

Women also take part in the ball magic

Women are also occasionally involved in FC Landtag. Juliane Pfeil (SPD) and Sandra Gockel (CDU) created ball magic at the first "Parliamentary Football Tournament" in 2024. For training, advice is also sought from professionals. Recently, former RB footballer Dominik Kaiser prepared the parliamentary footballers for the upcoming matches.

The games are always played for a good cause: the entry fees for the tournament benefit the Großenhain district association of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
