Renowned soloists and famous music halls: The Staatskapelle Dresden is appreciated worldwide for its sound and can once again prove its quality on a European tour.

The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden is going on a European tour with its chief conductor Daniele Gatti and two programs. The tour will kick off next Tuesday with a concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the orchestra announced. Giuseppe Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" will be performed there. The top-class soloist ensemble consists of Eleonora Buratto, Elīna Garanča, Benjamin Bernheim and Riccardo Zanellato.

This will be followed by performances in Madrid, the Vienna Musikverein, Essen, Paris, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg and Prague. The second program includes works by Richard Wagner, Claude Debussy and Camille Saint-Saëns. Gautier Capuçon is the soloist in the latter's cello concerto. The Frenchman holds the honorary title of Capell-Virtuos with the Staatskapelle this season.

Collaboration with several choirs

The Requiem will be performed with various choirs, including the Orfeó Català, the choir of the Orchestre de Paris and the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. The finale of the tour is on June 4 in the Smetana Hall in Prague.

At almost 480 years old, the Staatskapelle Dresden is one of the oldest orchestras in the world and often occupies top places in international critics' rankings. The world premiere of Richard Strauss' "Alpine Symphony" conducted by the composer Richard Strauss in Berlin in 1915 marked the beginning of the Staatskapelle's touring activities.
