The Croatian film "Peacemaker" by Ivan Ramljak has won the Golden Dove in the international documentary film competition at the DOK Leipzig film festival. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros. The film looks back on the beginnings of the Serbian-Croatian war in the early 1990s and on the police chief of the Slavonia region, who tried to mediate between the conflicting parties, according to a statement. "A specific event in a very specific region becomes a film of universal significance," praised the jury.

The Golden Dove Short Film (3,000 euros) went to the Canadian film "After the Silence" by Matilde-Luna Perotti about dealing with sexual abuse in the family. In the animated film category, two other Canadian productions were honored with Golden Doves: the film "Endless Cookie" by Seth and Peter Scriver (3,000 euros) and "Paradaïz" by Matea Radic (1,500 euros). The filmmaker looks back on her childhood during the Bosnian war, it was said.

This year, the Leipzig Film Festival had 252 films from 55 countries in its program. A total of 32 prizes were awarded.
