The carriage museum in Augustusburg has been completely renovated. Visitors can not only view carriages from several centuries, but also become coachmen themselves.

Bigger, more interactive, more exhibits: After three years of renovation, the Carriage Museum at Augustusburg Castle is reopening to visitors. 9.1 million euros were invested in the complete renovation and the new exhibition. From now on, not only 25 carriages from over three centuries will be on display there. Visitors can also take the reins and drive a carriage themselves in a newly developed simulator, the museum announced.

"The carriage museum fulfills a long-cherished wish of our visitors and ourselves," said Patrizia Meyn, Managing Director of Augustusburg Castle, at the opening ceremony. "The architecture and exhibits blend harmoniously into one."

The complete renovation has significantly increased the exhibition space to 1,100 square meters. Carriages of all kinds are on display: from stately state carriages at the Dresden court to everyday and working carriages of citizens and farmers to a children's carriage and a fire engine. They are embedded in landscape and everyday scenes. There is also a replica interior to try out and an exploded model of a carriage. Visitors can explore the show on their own after an introductory film.

The reopening will be celebrated this Saturday (September 27) with numerous activities. These include carriage rides, pony rides and hobby horsing.
