Around 70 artists, duos and collectives from 25 countries are transforming a former hospital complex in Chemnitz into a temporary gallery for urban art. They have been giving free rein to their creativity around the wasteland for around a week, and from August 22, the whole thing will be open to visitors on three weekends. The spectrum ranges from large-scale murals (wall paintings), paste-ups (graffiti on paper) and illustrations to installations and multimedia projects, according to the organizers.
The street art festival Ibug - short for brownfield redevelopment - is entering its 20th edition this year. It started in Meerane (Zwickau district) on the initiative of graffiti artist Tasso. Every year, he and fellow artists take on an industrial wasteland that is about to be demolished.
