Saxony's tourism is growing - more guests are coming from abroad in particular. However, the boom is particularly evident in the major cities, while many vacation regions are benefiting less.

Tourism in Saxony continued to grow last year. According to the State Statistical Office, the number of overnight stays in accommodation establishments rose by 0.6 percent compared to the previous year to around 19.98 million. This is the highest figure since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The increase in foreign guests was significantly stronger: Their number rose by eight percent to 2.18 million overnight stays - only just below the previous record of 2.2 million in 2019. The share of foreign guests in the total volume across Saxony was 11.7 percent and therefore below the national average of 17.2 percent.

Cities such as Dresden and Leipzig remain particularly popular with guests from abroad. In classic vacation regions such as the Erzgebirge or Vogtland, on the other hand, domestic tourism continues to dominate.
