Egidio Marzona, one of the most important avant-garde art collectors of the 20th century, is dead. He died on Sunday surrounded by his relatives in Berlin, as the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation announced with reference to the family.
The Italian art collector and patron Marzona (born 1944 in Bielefeld) was considered an important patron and collector. He built up a huge collection of 20th century avant-garde art and donated it to the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) in 2016. Sachsen converted a historic baroque palace on Neustädter Ufer into a home for it. In May 2024, the Archive of the Avant-Garde was opened as a new institution of the SKD.
