How can museums make their collections fit for the future? This question will be the focus of the annual conference of the German Museums Association in Leipzig next year, according to the association. In May 2027, around 900 experts from Germany and abroad will also discuss how collections can be activated against the backdrop of current social issues.
According to the information, a large proportion of the collections in museums remain invisible and are stored in depots - only around 20 percent are publicly accessible. Yet important stories, themes and perspectives lie dormant in these hidden collections, the activation of which is not only professionally challenging, but also highly relevant to society.
