Kraftklub in Dresden Amid Record-Breaking Heat: What Fans Need to Know

Concerts by the Chemnitz band “Kraftklub” are usually a sweaty affair anyway. When tens of thousands of fans celebrate Kraftklub songs like “Schüsse in die Luft” or “Schief in jedem Chor” on Saturday evening at Dresden’s Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion—which, according to the organizer, is nearly sold out—the thermometer is likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius. In light of the extreme heat, the organizer has announced a series of measures.

According to these measures, concertgoers are allowed to bring plastic bottles and Tetra Paks containing up to 1.5 liters of water into the stadium. The containers can also be refilled repeatedly on site. Four free drinking water stations will be set up inside the stadium for this purpose. The organizer also recommends that guests “arrive well-hydrated,” wear a hat, and use sunscreen. 

Emergency blankets will protect fans from the sun

In addition, emergency blankets will be distributed free of charge at bars, concession stands, and inside the stadium. These should be used with the silver side facing outwards as a sunshade over the head to protect against the sun. Items such as hand fans, mini-fans, small umbrellas, and cooling sprays are also permitted inside the stadium.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the interior of the stadium will be in the shade. Mist sprays will also be used to provide additional cooling. Fans will be allowed into the stadium starting at 5:00 p.m. The organizer recommends not arriving any earlier to minimize waiting time in the sun.

Reduced Water Prices

Water prices at the bars will be reduced by 20 percent on the night of the concert. According to a spokeswoman for the concert organizer, there will be no changes to the beverage selection. Alcohol will also be sold. Due to overcrowded emergency rooms, the Paris Police Prefecture has issued a widespread alcohol ban in the French capital for the weekend.

The number of emergency responders at Dresden’s Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion will be adjusted according to the weather, the organizer added. The stadium, where the Dynamo Dresden soccer club plays its home games, has a capacity of over 30,000 people.
