In 2027, Dresden will celebrate the 450th birthday of Peter Paul Rubens with a major exhibition. What visitors can expect at the Old Masters Picture Gallery.

The Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) are preparing a major special exhibition in the Old Masters Picture Gallery to mark the 450th anniversary of the birth of Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens in 2027. The focus will be on the SKD's important Rubens collection, the Saxon Ministry of Culture announced.

In the context of the anniversary, Dresden is working closely with Antwerp in Belgium, where the painter lived for many years. The so-called "Rubens Project" is a collaboration between the Old Masters Picture Gallery, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp and the Dresden University of Fine Arts. The project involves researching and cataloging around 80 works from both museums.
