The successful pop novel "Superbusen", the coming-of-age story of a young East German woman, is being made into a movie. In recent days, the film team visited Chemnitz to film at the Technical University, at the Karl Marx Monument and for various street scenes. The main character Gisela, who moves from Dresden to Chemnitz to study after graduating from high school and founds a band called "Superbusen" with friends, is played by rapper Finna ("Zartcore", "Riot Feminist"). She is reportedly appearing in front of the camera for the first time in a film.
"Superbusen" is Paula Irmschler's debut novel, published in 2020, about life in politically heated times in East Germany. The author refers to the right-wing extremist riots in Chemnitz in 2018. It is about friendship, music and celebrations, racism, body shaming and the perspective of a young, left-wing woman who grew up in East Germany. Following its great success as a novel, the pop drama has already found its way into the world of theater: in 2022, Theater Chemnitz brought the story to the stage as a scenic-musical road trip.
