From ceremonial sabres to wedding hats: an exhibition uses personal objects to tell the story of ore mining in Saxony.

Mining has shaped Saxony for centuries. Now the Chemnitz Schloßberg Museum is setting out to shed light on this history using personal objects from historical figures.

These personal objects include a ceremonial sabre and a wedding hat, as well as measuring instruments, portraits, books, clothing and pieces of ore in the new exhibition "A Mining Parade".

A model of the Chemnitz Saigerhütte is also on display, as well as replicas of the Annaberg mining altar to provide an insight into the everyday life and beliefs of the past, according to the Chemnitz Art Collections.

The exhibition is intended to show how the history of ore mining continues to have an impact today. After all, religious festivals, living traditions and craftsmanship have shaped the identity of the region to the present day.

The special exhibition opens this Sunday (October 26) and can be seen until February 22.
