Norway will be the guest country of the Leipzig Book Fair 2025. For Norwegian literature, this is a unique opportunity to reach and inspire German readers, the organizer announced in Leipzig on Wednesday. It is to be about current topics, but also about the publishing development in the Scandinavian country.
"Norwegian literature enjoys high esteem and wide distribution in the German-speaking market," said Oliver Zille, director of the Leipzig Book Fair. He added that the guest country appearance in Leipzig offers authors the ideal opportunity to present new works to a curious audience and get them excited about literature and culture from Norway. "Thanks to their enormous reach, the Leipzig Book Fair and "Leipzig reads" are tailor-made to sustainably strengthen the perception of Norway and its literary creators in this country."
The guest country project is organized by "Norla" (Norwegian Literature Abroad). "We look forward to creating an appealing program for a broad audience from all over Germany in 2025," said "Norla" director Margit Walsø. The German market has long been very important for Norwegian literature abroad, she said. "Now we can intensify this contact and bring in new voices," Walsø said.
