Merseburg Cathedral is to remain closed between February 5 and 9 for ARD filming. This was announced by the Vereinigte Domstifter Foundation on Tuesday. The ARD announced that the historical film "Bach - A Christmas Story" is to be made. Filming for the historical film has been underway since January 24.
According to ARD, the Christmas film tells the story of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Actors Devid Striesow ("Wann wird es endlich wieder so, wie es nie war") and Verena Altenberger ("Sterne unter der Stadt") are to be seen in the leading roles.
The film is to be directed by Florian Baxmeyer from a screenplay by Christian Schnalke. The St. Thomas Choir and St. Thomas organist Johannes Lang also took part in the filming. The film is a co-production of ARD Degeto, MDR, BR and the Austrian ORF.
