The state-recognized district music school in the Elbe-Elster district is being expanded to include an art school in order to offer qualified lessons in artistic and aesthetic education.

The state-recognized district music school "Gebrüder Graun" in the Elbe-Elster district with its various locations is being expanded to include an art school section. The Brandenburg Ministry of Culture will initially grant it state recognition as an art school for three years, as the ministry announced on Thursday.

In future, for example, courses must be offered in the fields of fine and applied arts as well as in at least one other subject area such as theater or media. Classes will be taught by qualified teachers.

This is the first time that qualified courses in artistic and aesthetic education will be offered in a predominantly rural region in the south of Brandenburg - initially in Herzberg and Finsterwalde. Three further locations are to be added in the three-year development phase.

Minister of Culture Manja Schüle praised the commitment of all those involved in developing the area over the past year. The legally defined quality standards for recognized art schools are quite high. Now the new creative offer can be developed from drawing and pottery to digital image design and drama.

Thanks to the provisional recognition, the district music and art school can take advantage of the statutory art school funding. The state provides a total of 400,000 euros per year. According to the information, six state-recognized art schools or art school departments at music schools in Brandenburg have benefited from this so far. The Ministry of Culture is supporting music and art schools with a total of around 5.35 million euros this year.
