An MDR series about the everyday lives of young people in East Germany before reunification has won the coveted television prize in one of the children's categories. Another German entry came away empty-handed.

The MDR series "Auf Fritzis Spuren - Wie war das so in der DDR?" has won an Emmy for foreign TV productions. The series won an International Emmy at the awards ceremony in New York in the "Kids: Factual & Entertainment" category, beating off competition from Brazil, the UK and South Africa. "In Fritzi's Footsteps" describes the time in divided Germany shortly before reunification for a young audience in six partly animated episodes.

The other nominated German production came away empty-handed in Manhattan. "Herrhausen - Der Herr des Geldes" about the assassination attempt on the former CEO of Deutsche Bank was beaten by the British "Lost Boys & Fairies".

The International Emmys are the global offshoot and little sister of the main Emmy Awards. Entries from 26 countries were nominated in 16 categories for the 53rd awards, which focused on productions from outside the USA.
