A dead man, illegal timber transactions and a priest with blood on her hands: Many things come together in the new "Erzgebirgskrimi". But who really has a motive for the murder?

The senior boss of a sawmill is killed in the forest, his son is involved in illegal business with Russia. And then thieves are up to mischief, stealing entire piles in the forest and taking them abroad by truck. In the new Erzgebirge thriller, everything revolves around forests and wood. Forester Saskia Bergelt (Teresa Weißbach) is on top form - not only as a co-investigator, but also in her liaison with Inspector Winkler (Kai Scheve). He lives right next door to her in the forester's lodge. But does the trail of money lead the investigators to the murderer or the murderess?

The new episode "Mordholz" (7.3., ZDF) doesn't waste any time. After just half a minute, the dead man is brought into the picture and the viewer is served a selection of suspects in fade-ins: from the son and junior manager of the sawmill to the forestry trainee and the vicar with bloody hands.

A possible motive, as the investigation shows, obviously has some and the investigators come across many inconsistencies. Why, for example, did the vicar sell the wood from the church forest cheaply to the sawmill? What is the forestry trainee hiding? And then there's the new registrar: she once trained at the sawmill but then left head over heels.

Commissioner Winkler is plagued by panic attacks

In the meantime, Commissioner Winkler is struggling with the aftermath of his previous case and is plagued by panic attacks. Back then, he was crammed into a bunker and close to death. His colleague Szabo (Lara Mandoki), together with forester Bergelt, had to continue investigating without him and ultimately save his life. The new episode now also becomes therapy for these traumatic experiences.

However, while the race against time in "Over the Border" developed a lot of drama, the new episode ripples along comparatively calmly. There are a few twists and turns and some things turn out differently than they initially seem. But who is convicted of the murder at the end is unlikely to surprise many viewers.

In addition to the landscape, this time the town of Annaberg-Buchholz is lovingly brought into the picture, for example with its market square and the imposing St. Annenkirche.

Bye-bye, Wolke: forester with a new nose on the road

The trio of investigators is now very harmonious. Instead of making cheeky comments, Szabo shows empathy with her colleague and the forester, whose relationship now leads to a romance after a long back and forth.

But fans of the series already know: Lara Mandoki is leaving the Erzgebirge crime series. It was the penultimate episode in which she appeared. She will be missed with her bubbly personality. Another animal actor has already said goodbye: Dog Wolke. In her place, forester Bergelt has the Münsterland dog Ronja pick up suspicious tracks in the woods.
