The Landesbühnen Sachsen will present 24 premieres in the coming season, including five under the motto 'Last Call' in October. Artistic director Manuel Schöbel describes 'Last Call' as the last call for the flight to Utopia or to Neverland. The season is intended to take audiences into a magical world of a thousand possibilities.

The Landesbühnen Sachsen will be presenting 24 premieres in the coming season. They will present five of them under the motto "Last Call" at the opening in October alone. "Last Call, like the last call for the flight to Utopia or to Neverland," said artistic director Manuel Schöbel on Tuesday at the headquarters in Radebeul. For centuries, he said, the idea of flying off to a dreamland has been associated with the opening of the theater curtain. The season should lead "into a magical world of a thousand possibilities, to a place where dreams come true."

On October 14 as well as from 19 to 22, a total of ten pieces come on stage, also in the assembly hall of the workshops, in the glass foyer, the old canteen and the restaurant at the house. In the "Schiller Workshop," for example, verses by the playwright are literally put on the workbench. The "Great Phylloxera Catastrophe," written by author G.A. Beckmann especially for the start of the season, will also have its premiere. In addition to classics such as Friedrich Schiller's "Maria Stuart," younger works such as Sarah Kane's play "Zerbombt," the chamber opera "Julie" by Philippe Boesmans and Francis Poulenc's "The Breasts of Tiresias" will be staged. In the music theater, Heinrich Marschner's romantic opera "The Vampyr", which was postponed in the Corona pandemic, can be seen.

In the course of cooperations with other cultural institutions, the Landesbühnen are involved in performances in Vienna and Kristiansand (Norway), and a dance evening is being developed with the independent scene. Just ten days ago, the Felsenbühnen Festival 2023 in Saxon Switzerland came to an end. With about 73,000 guests at the 76 performances since May in the natural stage surrounded by bizarre rock formations of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the artistic direction spoke of a success.
