The British rock band Deep Purple has canceled two concerts in Germany this weekend due to singer Ian Gillan’s hospitalization. The cancellations affect the shows scheduled for Saturday evening in Leipzig and Sunday evening in Hamburg, as the band announced in a statement on Instagram. The reason cited was a medical emergency involving the 81-year-old musician. The band did not provide further details about his health. Deep Purple and their team are working to find rescheduled dates for the two concerts, the statement added. Tickets already purchased will remain valid. It remained unclear for the time being whether the shows scheduled for November 3 in Dortmund and November 4 in Berlin might also be canceled. Deep Purple is one of the best-known British hard rock bands. Among their biggest hits are “Smoke on the Water” and “Child In Time”. Under the Instagram post, numerous fans expressed their concern for Gillan and wished the singer a speedy recovery. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
