Every year, two trade fairs in the Stuttgart region focus on the artistic value of books, prints and maps. There is also a coveted prize.

The book designer, publisher and editor Günther Karl Bose has been awarded the Antiquaria Prize for Book Culture. The 73-year-old has helped shape and influence book culture in Germany for decades, the jury said in recognition of the Berliner-by-choice at the announcement. The works he has published and designed are exemplary in their combination of classical and modern design elements. Bose was Professor of Typography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig for a quarter of a century.

The prize, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, is to be presented on January 23 (8.15 pm) at the 39th Antiquarian Book Fair in Ludwigsburg. For more than three decades, dozens of exhibitors have been offering rare or curious antiquarian books, autographs and graphics from all areas of collecting, including old prints as well as incunabula, books on photography, literature and children's books. Maps, city views, artists' prints and autographs are also always on offer at Antiquaria.

Awardee Bose is also known as an author of monographs, essays and books. His graphic works can be found in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Kunstbibliothek in Berlin, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich and the Folkwang Museum in Essen, among others.
