Andreas Gabalier brought Dresden's Rudolf Harbig Stadium to the boil with his "folk rock'n'roll" - and in midsummer temperatures. At the second concert of his German tour, 20,000 fans celebrated the 40-year-old musician and his band in the sold-out stadium of the new second-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden. Apparently the spark was transferred to the stage. That night, Gabalier praised the concert on Instagram: "Dresden - a monument! Perhaps even the most powerful show we've ever experienced ..."
Gabalier wants to provide "a bit of a draught"
The song "Daheim" kicked things off. Over the two and a half hours, great numbers from the singer's repertoire followed, such as "Meine Liebe bleibt", "Verdammt lang her", "I sing a Liad für di" and "So liab hob i di". In between, the folk rock'n'roller also sprinkled in a few folk wisdoms and thoughtful tones. He had learned from home that once you start something, you have to finish it. "A bit of a pull-through," Gabalier said, summing up a basic attitude for his musical career.
Gabalier stands for "modern tradition"
The best way to start the day is with a broad smile, said Gabalier. He has incorporated many of these values into his songs over the years. He described his musical style as "tradition lived in a modern way". This has brought him 99 percent sunshine. Even his grandfather said that you have to be able to look at yourself in the mirror in the evening. "I can still do that today." His life is an example of how things always go on somehow. From time to time in life, you also need lows that strengthen you and allow you to stand with both feet on the ground again.
Tina Turner and Brian Adams as role models
Gabalier also revealed that he had been invited by Canadian rock star Brian Adams as an opening act. The Austrian had repeatedly named Adams as a role model, as well as Tina Turner, because of their irrepressible vitality. Adams had told him that it was not a matter of course to be able to celebrate peaceful and sociable times in these times. "May you always come home healthy and full of joie de vivre," he called out to the fans. He had recently sung for the victims of a school shooting at a church service in his home town of Graz.
At the end, the audience loudly demanded the hit "Hulapalu" as an encore with their own singing. Gabalier said that this had never happened before after 1,000 concerts: "This is the East." This evening will go down in his concert history.
On July 11 and 12, Gabalier will head to Erfurt and Aspach. Schwarzenberg and Munich will follow on August 1 and 2, and Aschaffenburg on August 9.
