An extraordinary sea of flowers in Dresden: rare orchids from all over the world can be seen in the Saxon state capital at the end of March. Over 100 breeders and nurseries from five continents will be presenting rare botanical species, hybrids and themed plant displays as part of the "Dresden Easter" public fair, according to the organizers.
In addition to what is reportedly the world's largest orchid show, which will fill the entire Hall 1 of Messe Dresden this year to coincide with the World Orchid Conference, there will also be a sales area where visitors can purchase the nurseries' cultivars. There will also be a botanical art exhibition. The organizers are expecting over 50,000 visitors from 26 to 29 March. Tickets for the fair cost 14 euros (regular price), 11 euros (reduced price) and 5 euros for children aged 7 and over.
According to the organizers, the World Orchid Conference has been taking place since 1954 and has been hosted in Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Sydney, among other places. The last European host was the French city of Dijon 20 years ago. This year, over 650 experts from more than 40 countries are coming together in Dresden. The program includes more than 70 lectures, including on sustainable breeding, biodiversity and the protection of native orchid species.
