Saxony's state lottery company generated less turnover in 2025 despite higher fees for lottery games. The stakes amounted to around 332 million euros, according to Frank Schwarz, Managing Director of Sächsische Lotto-GmbH. In 2024, Sachsenlotto had achieved record sales of 342.2 million euros.
Missing jackpots have an impact
Schwarz explained the decline with the lack of longer jackpot phases in classic lotteries. When jackpots climb to dizzying heights over weeks, this attracts more players. This was less often the case in 2025, meaning that lottery sales also fell nationwide. Last summer, Sachsenlotto increased the prices for certain lotteries.
The Saxon lottery company is focusing on the development of new formats, said Schwarz. A lot of potential is seen in so-called instant lotteries - i.e. scratch cards. The stakes here had risen from 37.4 million to 38.1 million euros in 2025. With 24 different lottery tickets, Sachsenlotto has one of the largest offerings in this area in Germany.
