Maren Gilzer encourages volunteering and the volunteer fire department

Maren Gilzer, actress and member of the volunteer fire department, hopes that her new series will motivate young people to get involved in voluntary work. "Series often reach people more emotionally than pure information or headlines," said the 66-year-old. "Stories like this could motivate young people to become active themselves."

Gilzer plays long-time community nurse Erna Bäuerle in the Sat.1 early evening series "Frieda - Mit Feuer und Flamme" (on TV from June 1), which is set in Saxony. The TV series is also about the fire department in the countryside.

In her private life, actress Gilzer lives in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse. She is a volunteer firefighter there. That works "even without actively going on missions". "Support through monthly contributions or organizing events is welcome at any age."

Laura Lippmann (36) plays the leading role in the series "Frieda - Mit Feuer und Flamme". She plays a nurse who returns to her home in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with her 18-year-old daughter Pippa after a long absence. As a community nurse, she fights for her father's health and the preservation of the fire department.

Frieda also has to decide between her old love, the mayor Felix (Christopher Kohn), and a possible new beginning with the charming firefighter Mirko (Sebastian Deyle).

Lippmann said that she has a close connection to the role of the community nurse, as a large part of her family works in nursing. She herself had completed a voluntary social year in hospital before studying acting.

"What carers do, whether professionally, within the family or on a voluntary basis, deserves my absolute recognition and appreciation," said Lippmann. "I don't think many people are aware of how many people do voluntary work and what these people achieve every day."
