Last year, fewer high jackpots attracted players to play the lottery. This is reflected in the results of the state lottery company.

Saxony's state lottery company generated less turnover in 2025 despite higher fees for lottery games. The stakes amounted to around 332 million euros, according to Frank Schwarz, Managing Director of Sächsische Lotto-GmbH. In 2024, Sachsenlotto had achieved record sales of 342.2 million euros.

Missing jackpots have an impact

Schwarz explained the decline with the lack of longer jackpot phases in classic lotteries. When jackpots climb to dizzying heights over weeks, this attracts more players. This was less often the case in 2025, meaning that lottery sales also fell nationwide. Last summer, Sachsenlotto increased the prices for certain lotteries.

The Saxon lottery company is focusing on the development of new formats, said Schwarz. A lot of potential is seen in so-called instant lotteries - i.e. scratch cards. The stakes here had risen from 37.4 million to 38.1 million euros in 2025. With 24 different lottery tickets, Sachsenlotto has one of the largest offerings in this area in Germany.

Lotto classics dominate in Saxony

However, according to the figures, the classic number lottery "6 out of 49" is still the most popular lottery in the state. With 155.1 million euros, 46.7 percent of the stakes were placed on this traditional product. It was followed by the European lottery Eurojackpot, which accounted for 23.8 percent of total sales in Saxony.

At 70 percent, the majority of stakes are still generated in the 1,226 retail outlets in the state. However, the digital sector is growing ever faster, said Schwarz. The lottery company wants to ensure that as many players as possible place their bets via its own website sachsenlotto.de - and do not play with commercial agents.

More than 120 million euros to the Free State

Saxony also benefits from state lottery games. In 2025, the lottery company paid 122 million euros to the Free State of Saxony, Schwarz announced. In addition, a good one million euros from the proceeds of the Glücksspirale lottery went to charities and foundations in the fields of sport, the environment and culture.
