The number of guests in Saxony rose slightly in June - but the bottom line is a minus. Only one city danced out of line.

Saxony's accommodation providers recorded more guests and overnight stays in June than in the same month last year. According to the State Statistical Office, around 788,000 guests arrived, an increase of 1.1 percent. The number of overnight stays increased by 1.7 percent to 1.93 million.

German holidaymakers in particular were responsible for the growth: their overnight stays rose by 5.7 percent to 1.73 million. In contrast, the number of overnight stays by foreign guests fell by 23.2 percent. This was due to the special effect of the 2024 European Football Championship, which brought many tourists from abroad to Saxony.

Half-year balance negative

The half-year balance is negative, however: from January to June, 3.63 million guests and 8.93 million overnight stays were recorded - each around 2.6 to 2.7 percent less than in the same period last year. Chemnitz is an exception. As the European Capital of Culture 2025, the city recorded 272,000 overnight stays in the first half of the year, an increase of almost 20 percent. Demand from abroad grew particularly strongly at 23.4 percent.

Camping remains a trend

Camping also remains popular. Overnight stays at campsites in Saxony fell slightly by 1.5 percent to around 430,500 in the first half of the year compared to 2024. However, compared to the pre-corona year 2019, there was a significant increase of more than 43 percent.
