Passengers in Saxony can expect local transport services to be disrupted next week. Verdi is once again calling for warning strikes - affecting several regions as well as school transport.

Commuters, schoolchildren and travelers in Saxony must also prepare for restrictions in the coming week: The trade union Verdi has announced further warning strikes in local public transport in parts of Saxony. Large parts of eastern Saxony are to go on strike from early Tuesday morning. Those affected include Görlitzer Verkehrsbetriebe, Omnibusverkehr Oberlausitz, Regionalbus Oberlausitz, DB Regio Bus Ost in Zittau and Verkehrsgesellschaft Hoyerswerda. The warning strikes will end the following day between 1 am and 3:15 am.

Earlier, Verdi had already announced warning strikes for parts of the districts of Central Saxony, Zwickau and the city of Chemnitz. Accordingly, Regiobus Mittelsachsen GmbH and Regionalverkehr Westsachsen GmbH will be on strike for 24 hours from 3 a.m. on Monday morning. According to the companies concerned, they expect widespread disruptions in Döbeln and Freiberg. There will also be restrictions and cancellations on routes in the Chemnitz, Limbach-Oberfrohna, Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Lichtenstein areas. School transport is also affected for both transport companies, it is further reported.

Where buses are still running

According to Regionalverkehr Westsachsen, bus services in the Glauchau, Zwickau and Werdau areas will continue to operate as normal. Not affected at Regiobus Mittelsachsen are the depots in Mittweida and Hartmannsdorf as well as the routes operated by subcontractors in Freiberg and Eppendorf. The affected transport companies will provide information on their websites about the services on the day of the strike.

The reason for the strikes is the collective bargaining in Saxony's public transport sector. Verdi is primarily demanding a reduction in working hours, longer rest periods and better bonuses for night and weekend work. Last week, the union rejected an offer from employers following strikes in Saxony's five major cities as insufficient.
