A central construction phase for the comprehensive renovation of the historic platform hall is beginning at Görlitz station. As announced by Deutsche Bahn, the scaffolding and complete enclosure of the south façade of the 110-year-old hall began on Monday. The federal government, the Free State of Saxony and Deutsche Bahn are reportedly investing a total of 33.5 million euros in the major project.
The enclosure is a prerequisite for sandblasting work on the steel girders, which will be reinforced and provided with corrosion protection. Handmade glass panes will then be installed over an area of 1,250 square meters. A large "Görlitz" lettering and the city coat of arms will also be integrated into the façade.
