Passengers planning to travel by train from Zwickau to Gößnitz should expect service disruptions starting in mid-August. The section of track connecting Saxony and Thuringia will be closed from August 17 through December 12, according to Deutsche Bahn (DB). Construction work was cited as the reason. These works are part of the expansion of the Saxony-Franconia Main Line.
The Saxony-Franconia Main Line, along with the Dresden-Hof and Leipzig-Werdau sections, connects the states of Saxony, Thuringia, and Saxony-Anhalt with Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. DB is upgrading the approximately 288-kilometer-long lines to adapt them to future demands of regional and long-distance passenger service as well as freight transport, according to the announcement.
