Hens on Saxony's large farms laid slightly fewer eggs last year. According to the State Statistical Office, the approximately 3 million laying hens produced around 947 million eggs in 2025. This was 14.4 million or 1 percent fewer than in the previous year.
Saxony fifth largest egg producer
This puts Saxony in fifth place among the federal states. A total of 13.7 billion eggs were laid in Germany last year. Saxony's share amounted to seven percent. The largest producer was once again Lower Saxony (40 percent). For the analysis, the statisticians only looked at the 50 farms with at least 3,000 laying places.
According to the data, the "average hen" in Saxony laid 310 eggs throughout the year - slightly more than the national average of 304 eggs.
