From renovated town halls to youth clubs: Saxon municipalities can use new funding to make their towns even more liveable. There are also newcomers among the municipalities receiving funding.

17 more municipalities in Saxony are now being supported with urban development funding. As a result, a total of 129 million euros will flow into 88 Saxon towns and municipalities as part of the development of disadvantaged urban and rural districts, as announced by the Saxon State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development. The new additions include Elterlein, Torgau and Oederan, for example.

The purpose of the funding is to maintain and improve urban development: "Without urban development funding, many municipalities would have been left alone with the burden of renovation and modernization. Today, we can proudly say that the funding has left visible, positive design traces," said Minister of State Regina Kraushaar. Among other things, the money was used to modernize schools, playgrounds and green spaces and to preserve historic buildings.

In the town of Elterlein (Erzgebirgskreis), for example, the funding was used to renovate buildings on the market square, such as the town hall, the "Goldene Sonne" community centre and the Barbara Uttmann House. In Torgau (district of North Saxony), for example, funding would be used to expand the district meeting place for young people and to extend footpaths and cycle paths.

The federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the respective municipality each contribute one third of the funding. The funding extends over a period of up to 15 years.
