During "Open Farm Day" this weekend, many farms across the country are offering a glimpse into their work. The official opening of the event was celebrated on Friday in Wittichenau (Bautzen district). "Open Farm Day" is a great opportunity to experience how food is produced, said Stefanie Sabet, Secretary General of the German Farmers’ Association. It brings people together in conversation and builds trust because it allows people to experience agriculture up close, added Saxony’s Minister of Agriculture, Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch (CDU). In Saxony itself, numerous farms are also opening their barns and stables to the public. Visitors can see animals as well as modern technology. According to an overview from the German Farmers’ Association, participants include the Memmendorf Agricultural Cooperative in Oederan, the Christgrün Estate in Pöhl, the Schicketanz Farm in Grimma, and the Schönfelder Hochland Estate in Dresden.
