A road collapse in western Leipzig disrupted bus and streetcar service on Thursday evening. Among the lines affected is streetcar line 7, according to a spokeswoman for the Leipzig Public Transportation Authority (LVB). A bus replacement service has been set up for the affected section. Several bus lines are also being rerouted. The “Leipziger Volkszeitung” had previously reported on the incident.
According to reports, the sinkhole is located on Demmeringstraße in Leipzig-Lindenau between two tram tracks and was reported around 6:15 p.m. The cause was initially unclear. Employees from the transit authority and the water utility are on site to assess the situation. It is still unclear how long the local transit disruptions will last.
Passengers are advised to check their connections before traveling, officials said. Current changes are being displayed in the schedule information and the Leipzig-Move app.
