The steam locomotive known as the "Rasender Roland" has been puffing, steaming and hissing across the island of Rügen for many years. And it is set to stay that way for many years to come.

The district of Vorpommern-Rügen and the Saxon railroad construction and operating company Pressnitztalbahn have signed a new lease agreement for the "Rasender Roland" narrow-gauge railroad on Rügen. It comes into force on July 1, 2028 and runs until December 31, 2050 at the latest, as the district announced. The conclusion of the contract would enable important future projects.

This includes, in particular, the planned renovation of the line between Putbus and Sellin-Ost in the coming years with an investment volume of around 24 million euros. Almost 20 kilometers of track will be completely renewed. The lease agreement is the basis for the use and operation of the railroad infrastructure between Putbus and Göhren, including the associated facilities and land.

The "Raging Roland" is a steam-powered narrow-gauge railroad on Germany's largest island in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As part of the local public transport system, the narrow-gauge railroad runs daily from Putbus via Binz, Sellin and Baabe to Göhren on a 750 millimeter gauge. The train also departs from Lauterbach Mole on around 180 days a year.
