New Railroad Training Center Opens in Upper Lusatia

In Upper Lusatia, Saxony, Deutsche Bahn will train more skilled workers for track construction and maintenance in the future. The DB Bahnbau Group has opened an expanded training center in the Knappenrode district of Hoyerswerda, the company announced. Around 50 trainees began their training there at the start.

Practicing on Tracks and Switches

On a training area spanning more than 15,000 square meters, they can learn to work on tracks, switches, and measuring sections, among other things. The center offers training in areas such as track construction, rail technology, superstructure welding, and construction machinery technology. There are also three classrooms for theoretical instruction.

In the future, the center is expected to train up to 70 apprentices from all three years of the apprenticeship program. The program is also aimed at employees as well as newcomers and career changers who wish to pursue continuing education or professional development.

One of six locations nationwide

Since 2024, the site has been training the next generation of track construction professionals. According to the company, Deutsche Bahn operates six such training centers nationwide, including ones in Dresden and Halle. The DB Bahnbau Group employs more than 4,000 people and is responsible, among other things, for the construction, maintenance, and modernization of the rail infrastructure.
