After several weeks of construction work between Saxony and Thuringia, the railroad line between Neukieritzsch and Altenburg is back in operation. Train services are due to resume shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday, a railroad spokesperson said on request.
New tracks and platforms, bridges and culverts, overhead lines and electrical and telecommunications systems had been built on the five-kilometre-long Neukieritzsch-Deutzen-Regis-Breitingen-Treben-Lehma-Altenburg section.
According to earlier information from Deutsche Bahn, work to lay cables for an electronic interlocking system will now follow by spring 2027. The section is part of the Saxony-Franconia main line through Thuringia, which is 288 kilometers long. It is being modernized in many sections. Among other things, 32 signal boxes are being built and 223 railroad bridges are being renovated.
