About one in three Saxon households live in their own four walls. The so-called home ownership rate was 34.2 percent in the 2022 census, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. However, this depends on the size of the municipality. This is how people live in Bavaria:
Renting in the city, owning in the countryside
People in Leipzig are the least likely to own their own home - the rate here is just 13.3 percent. In the municipality of Trossin in the district of North Saxony, on the other hand, 88.4 percent of households own their own home. According to statisticians, home ownership rates are over two thirds in many rural regions, but less than half in larger municipalities with over 10,000 people.
