A new research center for refrigeration and energy technology is being built in Reichenbach im Vogtland at a cost of just under 33 million euros. The centerpiece of the new building will be a modern research hall with an innovative temperature rail system, according to an announcement by the Saxon State Real Estate and Construction Management Agency at the start of construction. “This special piping network makes it possible to supply various research facilities with both cooling and heating at different temperature levels.” The new building is being constructed on the site of a former freight yard and is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology. Completion is scheduled for late 2029. According to the information provided, laboratories, offices, administrative spaces, seminar rooms, and outdoor testing facilities will be built alongside the research hall.
