Following the discovery of a drone equipped with an explosive device at Leipzig/Halle Airport, the German Aviation Association (BDL) expressed satisfaction with the progress made in drone defense. It was the right decision to place the responsibility for detection and defense uniformly in the hands of the Federal Police, explained Chief Executive Joachim Lang.
In the meantime, the process of putting the necessary technology out to bid and procuring it has also begun. Among the eight airports in Germany classified as critical infrastructure, several locations have already benefited from the new technology, including the largest airport in Frankfurt. For security reasons, Lang declined to provide details about the facilities. Several vendors were selected, and the systems are modular in design.
