Several fatal accidents have already occurred on Saxony's major construction sites this year. The authorities see a particular problem in the negligence of some builders.

There have already been significantly more fatal work accidents on construction sites in Saxony this year than in 2024. In total, there have been 37 serious work accidents so far, six of which resulted in death, according to the state directorate. Last year as a whole, there were 38 serious accidents, only one of which was fatal. According to the information provided, four of the six fatalities so far this year were presumably the fault of the employees themselves. In two cases, employees died because the companies had cut back on occupational safety. The public prosecutor's office is conducting proceedings in these cases.

In total, the state directorate said it had increased the number of company inspections on construction sites this year. Around 5,300 will be carried out by the end of the year, around 250 more than in the previous year. In ten percent of the inspections, work was stopped immediately. In particular, fall protection systems that do not comply with regulations are a problem.
