Saxony’s cycling infrastructure is also set to benefit from the federal government’s special fund. “Through the negotiations on the Saxony Fund, we have secured a total of 24 million euros in additional funding for sustainable mobility—with approximately eight million euros each allocated to cycling, public transit, and rail infrastructure. The result is safe bike paths, better connections, and a higher quality of life for local residents,” explained Green Party caucus leader Franziska Schubert.
Bicycle path between Ebersbach and Seifhennersdorf
One example is the new pedestrian and bicycle path along State Road 140 between Ebersbach-Neugersdorf and Seifhennersdorf. The project had already been fully planned but had to be postponed due to a lack of funds. With approximately 3.7 million euros from the Saxony Fund, the project can now be implemented. A safe connection between the two towns will be created over a distance of about 2.5 kilometers. “Students on their way to the Oberland Gymnasium, as well as commuters, will benefit in the future from a significantly safer daily commute by bike,” officials said.
A bike path between Tharandt and Grumbach is also being built
The bike path between Tharandt and Grumbach is also becoming feasible thanks to the additional funding from the Saxony Fund. The plans for the project, totaling approximately 4.5 million euros, were already complete. Now, a 2.50-meter-wide bike path can be built along State Route 192 over a distance of about 2.3 kilometers.
“We took a close look at the bike path projects in Saxony and specifically selected projects that were ready for construction, close important gaps, and make cycling safer for citizens in the long term,” emphasized Katja Meier, spokesperson for transportation policy in the Green Party’s state parliamentary group.
