A moment of shock for passengers on the historic streetcar: A car suddenly collides with the streetcar. The collision ends without serious injury.

A driver who was apparently inattentive collided with the historic Kirnitzschtalbahn train in Sebnitz. According to police, the 18-year-old was just about to leave the Steinbruchweg parking lot on Saturday morning when the collision occurred with the train, which was on its way to Bad Schandau. The 36-year-old female driver and the train’s passengers were unharmed, as was the driver of the car. However, the train and car sustained damage totaling approximately 2,500 euros.

The Kirnitzschtalbahn has been operating since 1898 on a route just under eight kilometers long along the small river of the same name. Hollywood star Kate Winslet also rode the former tram while portraying conductor Hanna Schmitz during the filming of the movie “The Reader.”
